On the Summer’s Path with Scott Blum

Tonight’s call with the ever-present and devoutly spiritual Scott Blum was truly a delight!

We discussed Scott’s new book, Summer’s Path which is the prequel to his bestseller, Waiting for Autumn.

Summer’s Path is the remarkable story of Don Newport, an engineer who comes face-to-face with his personal destiny under extraordinary circumstances. After losing his job and his health insurance, Don learns that he has a terminal disease, with only a few months left to live. On his deathbed, he meets Robert, a brazen angel of death who promises to help him with a graceful exit. As Don prepares to say his last goodbyes to his loving wife, Robert attempts to change Don’s perspective about his mortality and proposes an exceptionally unique option.

Robert leads Don through an astounding meditation of life and death and reveals various healing and spiritual concepts, including walk-ins, animal communication, embodiment, and soul destiny. On this magical journey of self-realization, Don discovers that it’s never too late to learn profound life lessons about ourselves and our loved ones.

I asked Scott how he came to write his books, and he said that they are simply downloaded to him in minutes then he spends the time, afterward, putting the information together. He said he related to his latest book because before he and his wife, Madison, were married, they found themselves in a similar situation when she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and they didn’t have the medical insurance to cover the expenses of her treatment. They later made the decision to marry for this very reason since domestic partners were being covered at that time.

His book also tells us about how Don frequently sees the spiritual 11:11 prompt, and I asked for his insight into this widely known number sequence. Scott said it’s a spiritual signpost; a reminder that we’re on the right path and in the flow. I also asked him about those individuals who may not see this prompt, and he said that the prompt can be viewed as training wheels, and that the universe has a different way of communicating to all of us. If we’re seeing the prompts then it could mean that we’re really in the flow. He also said that everything that we’re doing is part of the universal love, but even when we’re in the flow, our lives still won’t be perfect. It’s a daily practice, a lifestyle choice, to stay connected to Source.

We talked about meditation, and Scott said that we can meditate while involved in any activity that brings joy. We don’t have to sit for several minutes or hours and quiet our minds in order to meditate. Scott liked to go to record stores, and he considered to be wonderfully meditative for him.

Be present in every moment.

Scott talked about Judith Blackstone’s Enlightenment (Embodiment) Process where we learn that the spirit is organized into 3 spirit bodies:

  • Awakening: Our mental capacity; spirit awareness (resides in the middle of the head)
  • Emotion: Protects us; can be potent & addictive, we can have a strong desire to experience the same emotion for how it makes us feel (i.e fear, grief, etc.) Emotions should be integrated within our bodies and not kept outside ourselves. (resides in the solar plexus)
  • Sensation: Key to experiencing the physical world; when we disconnect from the physical, we lose the gifts of experiencing the world through our senses. (gives us more strength and power)

We discussed how interacting with others at only the spiritual level can be considered invasive to people who are sensitive at this level. Scott said it’s best to stay at the physical level because doing so makes us more supportive of them; we’re fully present and more empathetic.

Waiting for Autumn talks about motivation, and I asked Scott to talk about why this is so important. He said motivation helps us live a more balanced life, and that we’re all on this planet to learn something. Some of our life lessons can be wrapped in difficult situations, and motivation gives us the pleasure experience which allows us to be more in balance.

We then chatted a bit about destiny. Scott said it’s the number 1 thing we should be preoccupied with (i.e. soul’s lessons to be learned in this life). Every single moment is not predestined; destiny is our own personal river of our flow with the universe. He said he we can remain present with our emotions then there are 11:11s in every moment.

Summer’s Path is about a man transitioning from the physical world to spirit, and we learned Scott’s views on death. He told us that it’s just as profound and beautiful as birth. That it’s an important part of life, and we need to understand that the soul will be okay and remain intact during this transition. He also believes that our wrongs are righted during this passage.

We talked more about what it means to be in the flow… flow is essentially another way of saying we’re following our destiny’s path. When we’re not following our destiny, we’re sending the message that we can do this life all by ourselves; that we don’t need any help from the universe. When we do this, we only make ourselves more tired and more disconnected. Being in the flow brings the support we need and helps us get through this world elegantly.

With so many people dealing with forgiveness “issues”, Scott’s take on forgiveness was really interesting and it offered an explanation that many of us hadn’t considered before. Scott believes that forgiveness is impossible to give; that it’s a relationship we have with the universe. He said we affect our own karma when we wrong someone else. When we take on the burdens whenever we’ve been wronged, we unconsciously don’t realize the affect that this burden will have on us because it wasn’t ours to take on. Carrying burdens from lifetime to lifetime isn’t good for the soul, and we continue to erode from the inside. Also, when we take these burdens from the people who’ve wronged us, we remove that person’s ability to heal that wrongdoing. He said instead of saying, “Oh, it’s okay. I forgive you.”, we should return the burden with love, and this takes place through soul level communication as it’s something that cannot be expressed through our human language.

We went back to Waiting for Autumn where Scott talks about Family Constellation Work, pioneered by Bert Hellinger. Family Constellation Work is an effective therapeutic process that helps to break destructive family patterns of unhappiness, illness, failure, and addiction that have carried over from soul to soul entanglements that have not been acknowledged or healed. Through a facilitator, a person discusses a difficult situation they’re having (i.e. unhealthy family relationships, addictions, etc.) then they’re asked to pick representatives within the group who will role play the people involved in this situation. The group then receives information from the spirit of others that can offer a healing to the situation. The goal is to come up with resolutions to heal this unresolved trauma. The process can be immediate and life-changing.

Next, we talked about soul retrieval which is a Native American tradition where a shaman journeys the soul back to a time where a piece of it was left and returns it back to the present. With this return comes the wisdom of that experience.

The more pieces of our soul that we give away, the less access we have to our intuition.

To end the call, I asked Scott to talk about something I hadn’t heard of, Kirtan. I learned that it’s a Hindu form of devotional singing/chanting of the divine names of Gods and Goddesses over a lengthy period time (up to 6 hours). The kirtankar (lead singer) will sing/chant a name and those in attendance will repeat it. Fascinating!

I had a lot of fun tonight with Scott, and this was a really enlightening call.
